Edamame are green soybeans that are often enjoyed as an appetizer in Japanese sushi bars and restaurants. Boiled or steamed whole edamame pods are typically served with just a light sprinkle of sea salt on the top.

Try this quick and easy Sweet Chili Edamame recipe if you would like to spice up this healthy appetizer. The edamame pods are boiled, then pan-fried with a bit of garlic and sweet chili sauce, then topped with toasted sesame seeds for a bit of an extra crunch. They are perfect as an appetizer, snack or side dish.

The edamame pods are not meant to be eaten. Place the pod in your mouth, then use your teeth to gently pop the edamame beans out of the pod. Even though the pod is discarded, you'll still get to enjoy the flavor of the sweet chili sauce and the crunchy texture of the sesame seeds with the edamame bean.

Not only is edamame packed with proteins and nutrients; they are also delicious! Edamame beans are sweet and almost creamy in texture. I hope that you will give this recipe a try. It is so easy to prepare and the flavor is amazing.

How to Make Sweet Chili Edamame

Boil 4 cups of water in a medium-sized pot over medium-high heat. Add 3 tablespoons of salt to the water.

As soon as the water has reached a rolling boil, add ½ a pound of frozen edamame pods to the pot.

Boil the edamame for 4 minutes.

When the edamame is cooked, drain them using a colander, then rinse with cold tap water. This prevents them from getting overcooked since we'll be pan-frying them as well.

Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.

Add the edamame to the pan.
